Tips for Instant Energy in Summer

Are you feeling drained of your energy levels in summer? Are you feeling dehydrated? Are you looking out for natural options to gain the strength back?

According to Ayurveda, period from January to June comes under Uttarayana, also known as the adana kala. During this period, sun and the wind are powerful. During adana kala, i.e. the summer months especially, the sun brings dryness in the body and reduces the Bala (strength) of the people.

According to Ayurveda, our body consists of doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, the functional elements. Mid-summer through early autumn is a season where the pitta dosha is dominant. So, it is important to keep your pitta dosha balanced during summer.

We all need to balance pitta in the summer season irrespective of what our constitution is. There is often a decreased appetite in the hot weather and the digestive fire is also low during this season. And that is why it is important to eat in moderation during the summer months. Because of the hot climate, we feel the desire to drink more liquids. Drinking cold water or beverages may seem satisfying during this time, but they are not good, they douse the digestive fire.
